U.S. Diplomat Appreciates Lahore’s Vibrant Culture, Academic Institutions

11/29/2007

Lahore – The U.S. Embassy’s Cultural Attaché, Constance Colding Jones, today praised Lahore’s “vibrant culture” and the “high academic standards” of its educational institutions on the second day of her visit to the city.

“The U.S. is pleased to contribute to the revitalization plan of Forman Christian College,” remarked Ms. Jones during her meeting with College Vice Rector Dr. Khusrow Dubash. “I am confident the College is providing its students with the quality of education needed for today’s competitive world.”

In 2004, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) awarded a US$5 million grant to the F.C. College to launch a four-year Bachelors Degree program meeting U.S. accreditation standards and to strengthen the college’s basic sciences and information technology programs.

“Lahore is rightly proud of its status as the cultural capital of the country,” the senior U.S. diplomat said in her meeting with Ms. Nazish Ataullah, Principal of the National College of Arts (NCA). “It is institutions like the NCA that have given Pakistan its prominent artists, painters and architects.”

Ms. Constance Jones was “delighted” by a performance at the ongoing World Performing Arts Festival, one of the annual highlights of Lahore’s cultural life.
