U.S. Envoy Highlights Support for Press Freedom in Meeting with Media Representatives

Lahore -- U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Anne W. Patterson termed a free press “the backbone of a democratic society” during her meeting with senior editors and analysts today in connection with the World Press Freedom Day.

“The United States supports press freedom worldwide,” stated Ambassador Patterson at a reception hosted by U.S. Consulate Principal Officer Bryan Hunt. “A free press is an important part of the democratic process.”

Ambassador Patterson recalled her active support for press freedom during the Emergency in Pakistan. “At the same time, journalists have a responsibility to exercise this freedom with the highest standards of professionalism and integrity,” stressed the U.S. Envoy.
