USAID Provides Emergency Assistance to the Displaced People of Bajour and Mohmand Agencies
August 20, 2008
Islamabad - The United States Government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), provided $50,000 in emergency assistance to families displaced by the recent conflict in the areas of Bajaur and Mohmand of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). This funding will be used for immediate relief assistance, including gas stoves, pots, utensils, plastic sheeting and poles, to the most vulnerable people, including women and older girls, fleeing the region who have sought shelter in camps located in the North West Frontier Province.
"We are working alongside the Pakistani and provincial governments to get emergency aid to those in need," said U.S. Ambassador Anne W. Patterson. "This assistance from the American people will provide essential items that will help these vulnerable people displaced by the fighting survive until it is safe for them to return to their homes."
USAID is continuing to monitor the situation and will provide additional assistance should it be necessary.
Since 2002, the U.S. Government has provided more than $2 billion to Pakistan to improve economic growth, education, health, and governance and to assist with earthquake reconstruction.
