American Diplomat Urges Educating All to Counter Violence

November 26, 2008

Islamabad - The Cultural Attaché of the U.S. Embassy, Constance Colding Jones, underlined the need for educating men, women, and children that "violence is not a solution but rather a problem," while delivering a lecture at the International Islamic University today.

"Violence against women is not an isolated phenomenon, but world-wide," the American diplomat told a gathering of female students at an event marking the  International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women  in the University's  Lincoln Corner. "Violence against women is a complex social problem and tackling the problem requires coordinated action that engages communities and many different sectors."

Ms. Jones emphasized that support services for abused women and programs encouraging legal systems implementation of relevant laws were also needed.
