U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte Meets with Senior Pakistani Officials

Islamabad - U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte met with senior Pakistani civilian and military leaders on Thursday in Islamabad to discuss a variety of regional issues.

The Deputy Secretary met with Pakistan's President, Asif Ali Zadari, as well as Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Interior Advisor Rehman Malik, and Chief of Army Staff Gen. Ashfaq Kayani.

Negroponte also participated in a memorial ceremony held at the U.S. Embassy for American victims of the September 20, 2008 Marriott Bombing. "Their memories will be a source of pride and inspiration for us to continue serving the cause for which they died," Negroponte said.
