Message to the People of Pakistan from U.S. Ambassador Anne W. Patterson on the Occasion of Christmas and Qaid-i-Azam's Birthday
December 24, 2008
Christians around the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on the 25th of December. The simple story of Christmas speaks to every generation with its message of love and peace. During this time of year, a spirit of service and charity interweaves itself among the season's festive celebrations. This year as we celebrate Christmas, we will continue to pray for freedom, justice and peace on Earth.
December 25th also celebrates the birth of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Pakistan's founder and first Governor-General. He believed in peaceful and gradual change, along with the importance of tolerance and equality -- values that are timeless and eternal. His charisma and diplomacy made him a great national leader.
The messages of equality, peace and hope are themes that will continue to inspire all. It is my great honor to convey warmest greetings and best wishes to the people of Pakistan on this occasion.
