U.S. Provides Training for Pakistani Prosecutors

Islamabad - The U.S. Department of Justice in cooperation with the Punjab Public Prosecution Department and the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA) conducted a week-long workshop designed to provide professional training for Pakistani prosecutors in the area of courtroom advocacy.
The program, held in FJA's facility in Islamabad, was attended by 34 prosecutors from throughout the Punjab. Using practical exercises and a model case study, the Punjabi prosecutors participated in daily exercises which culminated in a mock trial used to test their courtroom technique.
Prosecutor General of the Punjab, Syed Zahid Husain Bokhari, Secretary of the Punjab Department of Public Prosecution, Shaigan Malik, and the Director General of the Federal Judicial Academy, Moazzam Hayat were among those who attended the week-long workshop. The US facilitators of the training consisted of a group of US prosecutors, well versed in trial advocacy training techniques, included three senior federal prosecutors from the US Department of Justice, a Federal Judge from New York, and a senior criminal law advisor for the American Bar Association. This first-ever bilateral training effort represents a new level of cooperation between American and Pakistani prosecution services.
