Correction For The Record U.S. Embassy Construction

December 9, 2009

Islamabad - The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad rejects the assertions made recently by a Pakistani newspaper alleging that the Embassy was "Causing Chaos for Locals" as a result of construction at the U.S Embassy.

There is no large-scale construction project going on at the U.S. Embassy.  Plans for the future would not necessitate the closing of any roads in Islamabad, nor has the Embassy asked that any portion of the Kashmir Highway be closed as a result of the alleged construction.

The Embassy further refutes assertions that a private U.S. security company is providing security for construction materials destined for the U.S. as equally baseless and false.

The allegation that the U.S. Embassy put pressure on local government officials to stop the construction of a "seven star" hotel near the Embassy is false.

Finally the U.S. Embassy rejects the article's claim that we are planning on constructing an airfield on the Embassy compound or are importing any avionics equipment for use at the embassy.
