December 30, 2009
Karachi - Karachi's active and growing community of online networkers and social media enthusiasts will be joined this week by the U.S. Consulate General in Karachi, with the launch of its Facebook fan page (http://www.facebook.com/karachi.usconsulate/). The Facebook fan page aims to provide members information about the United States and activities of the American Consulate General in Karachi in order to promote bilateral and cultural ties between the United States and Pakistan.
"U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is an avid supporter of using new technologies to create social networks that help people share important information and build understanding," remarked U.S. Consulate General Karachi Public Affairs Officer Dr. Elizabeth Colton as she launched the fan page. "The launch of our Facebook fan page is a step in this direction. We hope to draw an active group of subscribers and encourage a constructive dialogue among members of this online community."
The U.S. Consulate-Karachi Facebook fan page features products and services of the U.S. State Department, the American Information Resource Center (AIRC) library, the EducationUSA educational advising program, and other information from the U.S. Consulate General in Karachi. It will serve as a supplement to the official U.S. Consulate General Karachi website (http://karachi.usconsulate.gov/).
