Ambassador Patterson meets Supreme Court Bar Association President Aitzaz Ahsan

Islamabad, March 18, 2008 – The U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan, Anne W. Patterson, called on the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, and reiterated the U.S. position that “an independent judiciary is a crucial pillar of Pakistan’s democracy.”

 

“Issues involving Pakistan’s judiciary are matters for Pakistanis to decide,” Ambassador Patterson emphasized.  The Ambassador also reiterated the U.S. desire to continue working with Pakistan “to encourage Pakistan’s continued democratic development.”

 

In this regard the U.S. has already provided more than $28 million in bilateral and multilateral program assistance to the people of Pakistan for voter education, political party development, computerization of the voting rolls, training of political poll watchers and domestic and international election observation missions.
