U.S. Consulate Peshawar Marks International Education Week At ‘Lincoln Corner’
11/20/2007Peshawar - The United States Consulate Peshawar is marking the 8th annual International Education Week with an array of activities at the Lincoln Corner, University of Peshawar.
“Many people in Pakistan have come to know the United States by studying in our country. In these Education Week programs, we extend a welcome to prospective international students,” said Consulate Public Affairs Officer Steve Lebens.
Celebrations began Monday with a seminar on graduate study opportunities in the United States. Representatives of the U.S. Education Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) spoke about the graduate admissions process, Fulbright scholarships, finding a university and preparing for standardized tests.
The USEFP representatives also held counseling sessions for students interested in studying in the U.S. The seminar continued on Tuesday with sessions at the Peshawar University of Engineering and Technology.
“Student visa applicants should be honest, be prepared, be organized and be confident when applying. The United States hosts a large number of students from Pakistan,” Vice Consul Justin Kolbeck said while giving a presentation about applying for a student visa to the United States.
International Education Week activities will conclude Wednesday with a showing of the Academy Award winning film “An Inconvenient Truth,” featuring Nobel Laureate and former U.S. Vice President Al Gore.
Participants at all events included students from Peshawar University, Institute of Management Sciences, City University, and the University of Engineering and Technology.
