U.S. Diplomat Gives Out Toys, Clothing to Needy Children
April 5, 2008
Karachi, April 5, 2008 – The U.S. Consul General, Kay L. Anske, underlined the need for “peace and goodwill between Pakistan and the United States” while distributing clothing, school supplies, and educational toys to the children of Don Bosco Home here today.
“Many children come from difficult family situations, making them less likely to receive quality education,” Consul General Anske remarked. “Community involvement creates a strong bond within and among families and communities.”
Many of the toys were donated by Action Products International Inc. (API), a company based in Orlando, Florida. The company is a global manufacturer and distributor of educational toys and products. API made its donation at the suggestion of Ms. Ann Stone, who visited Pakistan in October 2007 under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State. Ms. Stone, an expert in community-based political organizations and women's empowerment, serves on the board of API. She was touched by the plight of the needy children and wanted to provide them with gifts that would be both enjoyable and educational.
The United States Marines from the U.S. Consulate General in Karachi and Consul General Anske also participated in lunch and play activities with the children throughout the afternoon.
