Warden Notice 9/2009
March 30, 2009
Terrorists attacked a police training center in Manawaan on March 30, 2009. Gun battles between the attackers and security forces are ongoing. Manawaan is a small town on the road from Lahore to the Wagah Border with India. Americans should avoid all travel between the Wagah Border and Lahore until further notice. The U.S. Mission in Pakistan has prohibited all employees from travel along this route for the duration of the crisis. Pakistan authorities have advised that the road will likely be blocked at night. If travel along this route is absolutely essential, Americans should take extra precautions during the journey by avoiding any stops en route, traveling during the day, and staying away from congested areas.
The Embassy reiterates its advice to all Americans to take appropriate individual precautions to ensure their safety and security at all times. These measures include maintaining good situational awareness, avoiding crowds and demonstrations and keeping a low profile. Americans should avoid setting patterns by varying times and routes for all required travel. Americans should ensure that their travel documents and visas are valid at all times.
